This blog is one of several new projects we will be implementing in the coming weeks in an effort to make technology an integral part of the Global History and Geography Curriculum. There will be others, including:
-
Age of Revolutions: “A Wikipaper” – With this wiki, students are working in teams to create a newspaper in the form of a wiki. They are covering the BIG IDEAS, EVENTS, and PEOPLE from the French Revolution from the point of view of their team (Either the first and second estates, the third estate, or countries in Europe surrounding France during the French Revolution). http://ageofrevolutions.wikispaces.com

Collaborative Scribing: This is just getting off the ground, but essentially students will be relying on each other to get good notes that summarize that day’s learning in my classroom. At the end of each class, I will name that day’s “Scribe”. This individual will go to the collaborative scribing wiki and post notes that summarize the learning for the day in my class. This will encourage all students to take good notes because any student could be named the scribe on any given day.
-
Global Collaboration: A Wiki Where Students Will Collaborate With Other Students (In Class and Hopefully From Around The World) To Create A Digital Textbook (In The Form Of A Wiki). This will require students to research, write, summarize, theorize, digitize, collaborate, create, and many other skills that will be required of them in the 21st century.

What’s It Like?: A Wiki Designed To Get The Student View Of Being A Student Today. Let’s face it…times have changed since we were students. I want to know how students TODAY perceive the student experience TODAY. Students will be working on the wiki with me in advisement…and then we will create a video similar to the Digital Ethnography displayed on the wiki right now. That video was designed to illustrate the College Student Experience. What about the High School Student?

WWR: The Wolverine Weekly Review – A Web Site Project from the students in my Sports Journalism Elective. These web sites are student-created. All I do is transfer the files to the school server for them. We hope to add some podcasts we have been working on soon!
